2007 Year in Review

This was a great year for weddings:

2007 saw more interesting locations. Not just country club weddings -- now brides are opting for gardens, castles and even zoos. These don't have to be destinations; Austin has tons of places that would be perfect for an unusual location. This trend will continue into 2008. Check out the Umlauf Sculpture Garden, the Austin Scottish Rite Co or the Falkenstein Castle for unique sites.

Thankfully, 2007 also saw the end of the pink (or blue) and brown era. Don't get me wrong, I love the pink and brown combo. My daughter's room is all pink and brown. It's just a little over-done. Black is going to be big in 2008. We'll see more black bridesmaid dresses - no Pepto Bismol, little Miss Muffit outfits. Dark, bold colors are all the rage now. Emerald, navy and purple are top runners. In fact, I think purple is going to show its face more this year. It's so versatile! Plum for the winter, lavender in the spring, mauve for summer and burgundy for fall. Not only will bridemaids be in bold colors, brides will pick up these colors. Now, don't panic. White (or off-white) dresses will always be popular in America (although brides in Europe have embraced colored dresses). But, expect to see colored sashes and other details. And, more and more brides are embracing the fact that their bridesmaids don't have the same body-types. Bridesmaids can choose the best dress for their frame. And, personally, I love that idea. There's no need for anyone to feel uncomfortable.

Overall, 2008 will shape up to be one of the most interesting years for weddings. Embrace your unique ideas! And have a great year.
