Mallary + Ryan's Camp Lucy Wedding | Dripping Springs Wedding Designer & Full Service Planner

This sweet couple and their families have a special place in my heart. We started working on their wedding 13 months before the wedding date and helped with every step, starting with finding the perfect venue for their desired “woodland goddess” feel. Our worlds were turned upside down when COVID triggered the government to prohibit Louisiana travel to Texas, then prohibited Austin weddings completely. Add in to the mix a hurricane and limited flexibility due to the groom’s residency, we faced a reschedule and possible complete cancellation or reschedule to a 3rd date - it was hurdle after hurdle. As event planners, we excel at expecting the unexpected and trouble-shooting every obstacle with grace and swift efficiency. But COVID. This sweet family was heart-broken and my heart broke with them, as we shared tears over the phone - I’ve never felt so helpless to help a client! But after a lot of tears and reworked plans, and negotiations with the amazing vendor team who worked so hard to navigate the constantly-evolving event plans, we threw an amazing, well-deserved celebration that ended up being our first #COVIDwedding. Mallary and Ryan’s love and happiness was just what we all needed. Their celebration brought us joy and hope, and it’s such a privilege to revisit it with you through these images - I know you’ll agree that their joy is contagious.

The NOLA natives decided to make Austin their wedding destination and selected one of our favorites, Camp Lucy in Dripping Springs. Camp Lucy is great for destination weddings since it has resort amenities such as rooms, cabins, a restaurant, fire pits, alpacas, and a beautiful pool, plus it’s hidden in the hill country and can provide peace, quiet, and golden hour photos like no other.

However, these two wanted their guests to see all of Austin, so they had rooms at the Fairmont Austin downtown and held lots of events for their guests and wedding party during their weekend. They had daytime pool lounging and then nighttime drinks at the Fairmont, hung out at the local favorite Barton Springs Pool, lunch at Iron Works BBQ, and watched (and smelled) the bats on the South Congress bridge. That was just Wednesday and Thursday!! Friday saw a bridal luncheon at the South Congress Hotel with drag queens as performers, and wrapped with a rehearsal dinner at Colorado Lease with Southern Flair food, and sweet and savory treats from Taco Sweets.

The ceremony was held at Sacred Oaks under a canopy of greenery accented by candles and beautiful white blooms from Stems Floral. Guests were serenaded by Ibison Guitar Duo as family and wedding party made their entrance, ending with three of the most adorable flower girls ever, the couple’s grandmothers!! A violinist joined in as Mallary entered on the arm of her father, and she joined Ryan under the arch of hanging candles, roses, and greenery before being announced as husband and wife!

The happy couple was off for bell ringing and golden hour photos, and it was clear this new husband was smitten, carrying his wife in the hill country sunset. They then met up with their closest 22 friends for wedding party photos and a fun game of flip cup before enjoying some time alone for their own private dining. The guests were very well taken care of while all this was happening, with delicious passed hors d’oeuvres from Whim Hospitality and three bars PLUS a rolling whiskey cart to keep them hydrated in the summer heat.

And this party was just getting started! Guests came inside to hanging greenery and beautiful lighting, plus four themed dinner stations (BBQ, American, Cajun, & Asian, YUM)! Spacecraft Entertainment had the dancing covered and there was a live painter to truly capture these once in a lifetime moments. For anyone that wanted to enjoy the beautiful clear night sky there was a Star Guide, and in addition to the traditional cake cutting, the bride invited 11 of her single friends to participate in the New Orleans cake pull. Remember when I mentioned this being a celebration, well, when I said there was dancing, I really meant it. They danced, and danced some more!!

The Austin Knights Brass Band wrapped up the evening leading the guests outside with another NOLA tradition, the always fun Second Line Parade, for some surprises from Big Dog Pyro. The happy couple went off in style with a fireworks show and a departure STANDING in a beautiful white jeep with sparkler fountains leading the path. The joy on their faces was everything we all needed to remind us that love will get us through it all!

Congrats Dr & Mrs Wolfe!!

Jennifer + Andy's Houstonian Wedding | Houston Wedding Coordinator

Jennifer and Andy’s wedding at The Houstonian was beautiful and elegant, but don’t let that fool you, these two knew how to have fun! It was one of the last weddings in 2020 before COVID shut everything down, and they went out in style!!

In choosing The Houstonian for their wedding celebration, they were able to host all of their weekend activities and guests all in one location, which is one of the things we love best about hotel weddings. It was the perfect spot for out of town guests, the rehearsal dinner, the getting ready locations, the ceremony, and the reception. Plus with their iconic lighted Texas Live Oak tree and unmatched hospitality, it is hard to not fall in love with this Houston treasure.

The ceremony for 250 guests was held during golden hour in front of the twinkling Texas Live Oak, and then everyone moved inside to the Grande Ballroom for the cocktail reception and dinner. Jennifer’s parents spent many months working with the amazing team at The Secret Floral Garden on gorgeous decor and place settings, so when planning the timeline, we made sure that the new Mr & Mrs Miller got to experience it before everyone else. We are so glad we did, those five minutes produced some of the best pictures of the evening by the incredible Ama by Aisha.

After a delicious dinner of multiple salads and vegetables, red fish, chicken, carved to order beef tenderloin, and the Houstonian’s “all the way” mashed potatoes, the guests danced the night away thanks to The Matchmaker Band. Whenever they are performing there is never an open spot on the dance floor, and this wedding was no exception.

We knew everyone would be having such a great time with dancing and the custom neon sign photo booth, so we were prepared with almond and chocolate wedding cake from Susie’s cakes and mini desserts from The Houstonian. We had the traditional mini pecan pie, apple pie, and triple berry pie tarts, plus in a nod to Jennifer’s Peruvian heritage, we were sure to include plenty of alfajores. But there were no sugar highs for these guests, dessert was followed up with late night breakfast tacos and mini pizzas as well!!

After all that eating, it was time to finish out the night on the dance floor, starting with the Aggie War Hymn and ending with the bride and groom on the stage during the final song of “Shout” with a surprise ending of a confetti cannon!

It was a perfect blend of elegance and fun, and truly reflected Jennifer and Andy!

Congrats Mr & Mrs Miller!

Wedding Reception Seating Ideas - 7 Ways to Set the Table for Your Wedding

As we mentioned in our last post about seating, sometimes this is a detail that gets overlooked. Let’s face it, talking about color palettes and flowers is a bit more fun! When you get right down to it, the beautiful items you add to make your wedding come alive only have a true place to shine if guests have spots to sit.

Last time, we detailed the variety of ways you can style your ceremony seating. And, today, we’re chatting all about your reception seating. Trust us when we say, this is the good (and important!) stuff.

Before we jump in, we thought we would highlight the importance of a seating plan. At its most basic, having a plan for your seating allows your team of wedding professionals to design your space. The number and style of tables present in your reception will guide your florist and catering teams, most importantly. Plus, your seating plans will impact where your guests go to take their seats! And, guests really do need to know where to sit. Though it may seem tempting to not assign seats, when guests are in situations where mingling is required, most will greatly appreciate being told where they’re sitting versus having to make a plan on their own and find a spot.

With the importance of reception seating in mind, let’s explore much more about the seven most popular types of reception seating below!

Farm Tables:

Farm tables are a favorite, particularly at outdoor garden or tented weddings, because you can skip adding linens overtop. They have a rustic quality that’s very on-trend, and because of that they lean more toward a slightly more relaxed style. We love them!

In terms of seating, a single farm house table will most often seat 6-8 people, depending on the size. But, you can always add guests on either of the ends. Plus, the ends also allow you to push tables together to allow more people to sit together.

Rounds:

If you’re planning a classic reception, guests sitting at round tables is likely what comes to mind. Linens placed on top become a must (a behind-the-scenes fact is the tables aren’t very pretty underneath!), and they create an easy way to add centerpieces to the middle.

In terms of inviting guests to sit together, round tables most often seat 8-10 guests. That’s a major bonus because you can fit more people around each table. Additionally, sitting around a round table makes mingling a breeze because everyone can see each other. The only downside? You can’t push tables together, so the size is the size.

Mixture:

You do not have to choose just one style for your reception tables and seating! Instead, you can combine several looks together. The most common thing to do to achieve this look is to pair long tables together with round tables in the space. The variation is wonderful for the eye, and it also means you can pair different centerpiece looks together with ease.

Circular:

Similar to a ceremony in the round, you can also place your wedding reception tables into one large circle. The community feel is a favorite among couples who have opted for this style!

When planning how guests will sit together, the circular look is actually achieved by placing long rectangle tables next to each other to form the circle. Similar to round tables, a benefit is guests can see each other from opposite sides, but they’ll be a little too far away to talk. You’ll also want to keep your reception space in mind. Due to the size of this style, an outdoor space with plenty of room tends to work best!

One Long Banquet Table:

You have likely seen single banquet tables on Pinterest. The look involves placing long table after long table next to each other to form one community table where guests dine together on either side. The feeling is definitely celebratory and intimate even though the length might appear never ending. To save space, think about weaving the table through a room or tent if al fresco dining is out of the question.

Although it’s one long table, you will want to number it in sections to help your catering team and their staff to know where guests are sitting. This also might be an opportunity to vary your centerpiece looks! The only downside? The sheer size of the table means guests are unlikely to mingle with those not sitting by them.

High-tops + Lounge:

If you’re hosting a micro or intimate wedding, you might feel inspired to plan a cocktail reception. With a smaller guest count, guests will likely be eager to mingle and meet everyone in attendance!

Although it might be tempting to forgo tables and chairs entirely, keep them in your wedding budget. Guests like to be able to sit, or at least lean, at a table while enjoying appetizers and cocktails. Rather than focusing on high-tops alone, consider interspersing a lounge area or two complete with plush arm chairs, sofas, and coffee tables.

This is the one time when we will say you can forgo assigning seats. Just make sure there’s a spot for everyone!

Sweetheart vs. Head Table vs Interspersed:

Most of your time making decisions about reception seating will be focused on your guests. However, don’t forget about you and your love! You will want to decide whether you will sit at a sweetheart table, a head table, or interspersed with your guests.

Sweetheart Table: Choosing to move forward with a sweetheart table means you and your partner will sit at a table together alone. Your table will feature its own florals and details, like chair signs, and you will likely be placed overlooking the dance floor. Perfect for couples who don’t mind a little extra attention, this seating style is a classic.

Head Table: Opting for a head table means you will sit at a long table (most often!) with your full wedding party. If your wedding party isn’t massive, you can also invite your bridesmaids and groomsmen to sit with their spouses or significant others. Head tables allow everyone to sit together and there’s still plenty of attention on you. But, you get to share the wealth, while spending quality time with your closest family members and friends.

Interspersed: Now and again couples want to simply sit with their guests rather than sitting by themselves at a sweetheart table or with their wedding party at a head table. And, we love this option because it creates a true community feel. If your guest count isn’t too large, you can even leave two seats empty at each table so you can move around throughout dinner and desserts to greet every guest.

With the variety of reception seating styles in mind, how will you design your reception space? What will work best for your wedding? Let us know in the comments!

Katrina + Robert's Ma Maison Wedding | Austin Wedding Coordinator

Because couples can get ready onsite, there are beautiful locations for outdoor ceremonies, and the ballroom offers plenty of opportunities to transform the room, we’re always eager to return to Ma Maison for wedding days in Dripping Springs! Katrina and Robert’s celebration was one we couldn’t wait for them to experience.

Katrina +Robert spent the morning of their wedding day getting ready in the suites at the venue. Just before their outdoor wedding ceremony, Katrina and her dad shared a sweet first look. Not too long after, guests began to gather outside to witness the moment when Katrina and Robert recited their vows. Not to mention, everyone also got to see Katrina+Robert’s adorable pup walk down the aisle!

Once they were officially married, Katrina and Robert explored the Ma Maison grounds with their photographer, Mike Reed Photo, to capture portraits together and with their wedding party and families. From beautiful structures to gorgeous grounds, there are so many locations to capture photos – something else we adore about Ma Maison. And, we also have to note how thrilled we were that Katrina and Robert were welcomed into life as a married couple with wonderful weather!

After photos and a cocktail or two, guests were welcomed into Ma Maison’s ballroom. The space was decked out in a palette of coral, blush, gold, and ivory. The bright pops of color looked perfect against the darker wood tones in the space. Plus, we always welcome florals in the same shades. Just’in Roses did an excellent job creating low and tall centerpieces that truly made the ballroom come alive!

Guests dined on a menu prepared by Crave Catering, and they also enjoyed cake by Iced Cakes. Our eyes immediately wandered to Katrina and Robert’s tiered floral cake, but we would be remiss if we didn’t mention how fun Robert’s groom’s cake was. He loves to play PlayStation, so a controller was the perfect fit for his cake! Before the night came to a close, Katrina and Robert shared dances together, with their families, and with their guests.

We are so thrilled you were able to celebrate your wedding day, Katrina and Robert!

Ma Maison Open House

We have to admit, we’re already starting to countdown until our next visit whenever we depart from Ma Maison. This Austin area wedding venue is located in the heart of hill country, and we think their indoor and outdoor wedding spaces are some of the most beautiful in Texas. And, our couples agree! So, when the Ma Maison team invited us to style an outdoor wedding ceremony and reception with a wonderful team of wedding professionals for their January open house, we jumped at the chance!

Karen, Ma Maison’s owner, dreaming up the details for each unique space, and she asked us if we would take on Springtime in Paris for the Green Cathedral. The wrought iron details are similar to what one might see while roaming the streets of Paris. Then we turned to colors and chose to pair soft pastel shades together with brighter pops of pink and red. Of course, black and white stripes and beautiful flowers were a must!

On the day of the open house, we revealed our completed design. Watercolor stationery by Poppies and Ink would invite guests to our soiree. When everyone arrived, we imagined a ceremony taking place in front of the Green Cathedral. To add extra color, fun, and whimsy, we worked with Pop & Drop to create a balloon arch that served as a ceremony backdrop and to install colorful streamers indie the cathedral. Then we added high top tables draped in stripes to our cocktail hour space where we imagined guests sipping drinks. A boxwood escort card display with watercolor cards invited guests to take their seats in the reception.

Because the outdoor setting is so ideal, like an outdoor Parisian café, we imagined the reception occurring under the stars. Uncovered wooden tables served as our base where we layered bright pink rose and peony centerpieces by Exquisite Petals on top. Then we imagined guests enjoying a menu created by SoHo Catering. Lastly, we have to highlight our favorite detail: live fashion painting by Vogue Vignettes! Paris is known for their art and fashion, so incorporating both in the form of a live painter at our wedding felt completely fitting.

Whether it’s inside or outside, Ma Maison’s event spaces all welcome transformation and plenty of additional details. And, they look like a dream in photos, particularly if The Mill is behind the lens. Will we be planning your Parisian inspired wedding at Ma Maison next?

Haley + Tyler's Briar Club Wedding | Houston Wedding Coordinator

Haley was a “Covid Bride” so we were originally scheduled for her Wedding ceremony at a church with the reception being held at The Junior League of Houston. When we had to postpone, the Church and Junior League did not have dates that lined up and she decided the Church was more of a priority to her than the reception venue so we found a new venue which was The Briar Club.

As we got closer to the wedding date, the capacity restrictions were still extremely limited at The Church and she would only be able to have her immediate family attend the ceremony. Because of that, she opted to move everything to The Briar Club and do a room flip in the Main Ballroom.

The capacities at The Briar Club were then reduced as well so we could no longer do the room flip and maintain the capacity restrictions so we finally landed on Plan D - which was to have the ceremony in the main ballroom with the guests seated at their dinner tables and seating for immediate family members on the dance floor so she would still have an “aisle” to walk down.

This family went through SO many changes during the Covid rescheduling process as we also planned her sister’s wedding during the same period of time experiencing all the same ups and downs. We shared lots of laughs and tears throughout the process but Haley (and Tyler) handled everything with grace.

Haley and Tyler started their wedding days apart from each other with their wedding party at Hotel Zaza in the heart of the city. Then Haley and her bridesmaids, followed by Tyler and his groomsmen, were transported to The Briar Club to enjoy the rest of their day. When Haley arrived, the first thing she did was share a first look with her dad! Haley and Tyler opted not to see each other before their ceremony because they wanted their first glimpses of each other to be when she started to walk down the aisle.

When we were talking through details about Haley and Tyler’s wedding ceremony, we decided to introduce dashes of modern style that would pair with the timeless feel of the space where they would wed and celebrate later in the evening. A circular golden hoop featured bright pink flowers by F. Dellit Designs offset on the piece, and it offered just the right amount of color and whimsy. It was our favorite detail of the day, and it’s also the spot where Haley and her bridesmaids captured many of their photos!

Once they were officially announced as Mr. and Mrs., Haley and Tyler enjoyed dinner tucked away together. We always highly recommend that our couples use cocktail hour to enjoy their first meal together because this time ensures they’re able to take a quick break from their guests and enjoy each other’s company before the dancing begins.

Inside the ballroom, tall centerpieces by F. Dellit Designs filled with classic flowers, like dahlias, garden roses, and standard roses caught everyone’s eye throughout the night, thanks to their bright pink palette. Haley and Tyler’s wedding cake by Cakes by Gina also had their bright pink floral theme woven throughout, and their circular hoop served a new purpose as the backdrop for the DJ, Goldline Entertainment.

On the dance floor, Haley and Tyler shared their first dance together. Then, each danced with his or her parent before the floor was opened for the rest of the night. Haley even jumped behind the DJ booth! After the last song played, Haley and Tyler had one last memorable wedding moment together when their guests tossed confetti before they jumped into a pedicab.

Thank you so much to Agape House Studio for capturing every moment of Haley and Tyler’s day! We have loved sharing the images from this sweet celebration with you.

Wedding Ceremony Seating Ideas

Of all of the events that happen throughout your wedding day, your wedding ceremony typically holds the most meaning. It’s when you will be officially pronounced as married after all! So much thought goes into the attire you, your love, and your wedding party will wear as you make your debuts at the end of the aisle. Plus, there are florals and backdrops to consider. But, what doesn’t receive quite as much airtime is your ceremony seating. And, we think it deserves to be highlighted!

Many wedding ceremonies are hosted outside in Texas, particularly because we have a host of beautiful venues with gorgeous properties at our fingertips. Unlike houses of worship, outdoor ceremonies mean you can choose how you would like the chairs (or other seating – stay tuned) to be arranged. So, today we’re diving into five ceremony seating options below!

Circular Ceremony Seating

Circular ceremony seating is something sometimes referred to as a wedding ceremony “in the round”. It means your wedding altar will be positioned in the center of a circle, and your guests’ seating will surround you. The wonderful benefit of circular ceremony seating is it creates a truly intimate environment for you and your guests to experience. Because you will be surrounded on all sides (literally!), you will feel as though your guests are very much involved in your ceremony, which is especially poignant if they will be repeating any statements, like “We will”.

Half Circle Ceremony Seating

Half circle ceremony seating is an excellent choice if you still would like to create an intimate wedding ceremony environment while highlighting a particularly beautiful backdrop or an altar. Think of this as a happy medium between traditional ceremony seating, where guests are seating in straight rows, and the circular ceremony seating we highlighted above.

Cluster Ceremony Seating

One of the benefits of social distancing has been the debut of a new seating style – cluster ceremony seating! This involves placing chairs into mini family groupings with plenty of space in between each group. Visually, it creates a whimsical, cozy feel with the benefit of ensuring everyone is comfortable. Cluster ceremony seating also looks particularly welcoming when vintage furniture (think: sofas and arm chairs) is used to create each “pod”.

Chair Alternative Ceremony Seating

Chairs are the most common option used for ceremony seating, but that doesn’t mean they’re the only option! If you’re hosting your wedding that you want to feel comfortable, but modern, think about turning to bench seating. We’ve also seen couples use church pews and vintage furniture is also a wonderful idea (see above for how we like to use it for cluster seating!).

Standard Ceremony Seating

Last, but certainly not least, is the most common type of ceremony seating, standard! When we think of standard ceremony seating, wooden chairs placed in straight rows on either side of an aisle is typically what comes to mind first. This style will never go out of style because it’s timeless and classic, not to mention everything needed for a wedding ceremony is present: seats for guests, rows that can be reserved for VIPs, an aisle for everyone in the wedding to walk down, and a clear line of sight toward the altar.

Erin + Grant's Mansion at Colovista Wedding | Austin Wedding Planner

One of our favorite things about our couples is the ways in which they differ. No two pairs are ever quite the same, which means we’re always exploring new ways to transform venues, incorporate styles, and share our couples’ stories with their families and friends. It’s a joy every time! One particular style we’re always excited to explore is classic, and Erin and Grant’s Texas wedding day could not have been more timeliness.

While we were planning, Erin and Grant were quick to note they were drawn toward shades of ivory and emerald. Their chosen colors came together particularly through their florals, stationery, and bridesmaids’ dresses. The look was effortlessly beautiful, and The Mansion at ColoVista was the perfect spot to host such a classically Southern soiree.

Erin and Grant each spent their mornings on site prepping for the day ahead. Gaby Caskey Photography captured Erin’s jewelry together with the couple’s stationery suite, and the results are stunning. Then Erin put on her wedding dress for the first time on her wedding day, and she shared a first look with her dad and brothers before seeing Grant outside. Erin and Grant each read letters they wrote during their moment together before it was time to meet again at the top of the aisle.

Erin and Grant’s wedding ceremony was hosted outside at The Mansion at ColoVista. The Texas weather cooperated perfectly, and they enjoyed wonderful natural light from the moment Erin walked down the aisle on the arm of her father until she and Grant recessed back down the aisle as Mr. and Mrs.! We also have to note the gorgeous flowers Brenda Abbott Floral Design added to the arbor.

After their ceremony, Erin, Grant, and their guests sipped on cocktails while the finishing touches were placed inside the reception space. Tables included ivory centerpieces filled with lush blooms again by Brenda Abbott Floral Design, and we also had our first look at their wedding cake by Sweet Treats Bakery. We loved the flowers on their wedding cake, and we also loved Grant’s golf course themed groom’s cake!

Erin took special care to incorporate many extra touches to keep things “safe” and comfortable for their guests. They made stickers based on their dog’s personalities (Stu and Doug) for people to wear showing their level of comfort being around other guests. They also had custom hand sanitizer and masks available.

In lieu of a photobooth, they had disposable cameras all around the reception for guests to take pictures with (we secretly loved this because it was a throwback for us from when we started doing weddings years ago and pre-photobooth! ). Will definitely be a fun surprise when they get them all developed.

Once guests were welcomed inside, everyone dined on a menu created by El Jarro de Arturo. Erin and Grant also shared their first dance, and they joined together with their parents for individual dances. Then it was time for DJ Atlas to play and for guests to join in on the fun on the dance floor. The night couldn’t come to a close until Erin and Grant’s friends and family joined them outside for one final moment together as Erin + Grant ran through a tunnel lit up by sparklers. It was the perfect way to end a wonderful day!

A special note from Meredith: Erin and Grant were both friends of mine but I knew them separately before they got engaged. Grant and I went to high school together and Erin and I went to college together. We were all from San Antonio and Erin went to our rival high school but they didn’t connect until a little later on in life.

Jennifer + Michael's Ma Maison Wedding | Dripping Springs Wedding Coordinator

As the seasons changed throughout the year in 2020, countless couples were making difficult decisions about their wedding days. As the fall approached, Jennifer and Michael knew what they wanted to do – they wanted to celebrate at Ma Maison. And, celebrate they did!

Jennifer + Michael pared back their original guest list, asked everyone to add a mask to their look, created pod seating for their ceremony space, kept guests distanced while dining during the reception, and hosted as much outside as possible. The health of their guests and their team of wedding professionals was at the forefront of their day, and everyone could not have been more grateful for each and every measure they took to keep their crew safe!

Jennifer and Michael’s wedding day began during their getting ready sessions with their respective wedding party and family members. Before they saw each other for the first time, Jennifer incorporated a sweet first look tradition but it had a twist! Rather than doing a first look solely with her dad, she renamed it a “family first look” and asked her brother and mom to join in as well. The photos of Jennifer and her whole family captured by Josh and Dana Fernandez during this moment are so sweet! Then Jennifer and Michael saw each other for the first time in the beautiful lawns of Ma Maison.

As we mentioned, pod seating was incorporated into Jennifer + Michael’s ceremony, which occurred outside at The Grove. The natural light was beautiful during this point of their day, and the sun streamed into portraits captured throughout their vow exchange perfectly. Wild Bunches also added an arch of blooms above to create an even more gorgeous setting.

Once they were officially married, Jennifer and Michael were joined by their families and wedding party to capture photos throughout Ma Maison’s property grounds. The only way to describe these portraits is to say they are stunning! The trees and water backdrops were showing off for these two, and they deserved every moment.

At the reception, guests were greeted by a collection of long and round tables, both inside the Great Hall and under the Trellis. The tables featured a mixture of candles and greenery, floral centerpieces, or tall floral arrangements with loose greenery garlands. Plus, Wild Bunches also added greenery along the staircase and banister above. Not only was the reception space revealed, but Jennifer also revealed her reception dress after she and Michael shared their first dance. Her beaded gown was perfect for dancing and fun!

Guests dined on a menu created by Crave Catering, and they safely joined together on the dance floor for plenty of songs played by Infinity Sounds Lab. Before the end of the night, Jennifer and Michael cut their cake by Classy Cakes by Lori and wove through their guests once more during their sparkler exit.

Jennifer + Michael, we are so happy you asked us to coordinate your wedding day, and we could not be more thrilled that you’re officially married!

Jacob + Kendrah's Ma Maison Wedding | Dripping Springs Wedding Designer & Full Service Planner

We plan, design, and coordinate for our couples and their guests at a variety of wedding venues throughout Texas, and we’re always thrilled when we get to return to Ma Maison. Located in  Dripping Springs, outside of Austin, Ma Maison offers indoor and outdoor spaces where couples can celebrate their wedding ceremonies and receptions, and each of the spaces are uniquely stunning in their own ways. Kendrah and Jacob hosted both their ceremony and reception at Ma Maison during the height of the summer (they originally planned to host earlier in the year, but had to postpone due to COVID), and we are so thrilled to be able to relive their 2020 wedding with you today.

Despite the planning hiccups due to the Pandemic, we first have to say that Kendrah and Jacob are seriously two of the happiest and most in love couples we have ever seen! They were just so hopeful and happy to be getting married!

Kendrah and her family and bridesmaids arrived at Ma Maison during the morning of her wedding day to get ready on site. Whenever possible, we always recommend getting ready at your wedding venue, particularly if it has beautiful natural light, because you can enjoy a much more leisurely morning with more time to sip mimosas.

Rather than seeing Jacob during a first look prior to their wedding ceremony, Kendrah shared a  first look with her bridesmaids and her dad. Both moments were sweet for different reasons –  Kendrah’s bridesmaids were so visibly thrilled for her, and Kendrah’s dad was overcome with emotion. We loved both!

K+J recited their vows underneath the Texas sun outside in the garden (under the grove) at Ma  Maison. Exquisite Petals adorned their outdoor altar with bright blooms that matched their color palette of cornflower blue, bright pink, peach, and ivory. After they were officially married,  one of Kendrah and Jacob’s first fun to-dos was to ring the bell! After, they captured photographs with Melissa Glynn Photography and their families and wedding party throughout Ma Maison’s gorgeous property.

While Kendrah and Jacob were capturing photos, guests retreated into cocktail hour before they were welcomed inside Ma Maison for the reception. To keep the theme of stunning flowers going, Exquisite Petals adorned tables with low and tall centerpieces. We particularly loved  Kendrah and Jacob’s long head table that featured low arrangements of greenery and tall centerpieces of flowers. Above, chandeliers glowed overhead.

After dining on a menu prepared by SoHo Catering, Kendrah and Jacob spent the rest of the night on the dance floor with their guests and their DJ, Full Scope Entertainment. Their first dance was to “When I’m With You” by Ben Rector, “L-O-V-E” by Nat King Cole played as they cut their cake, and “Can’t Help Falling In Love” by Elvis Presley served as the final song of the night as Kendrah and Jacob shared a private final dance.

Before Kendrah and Jacob left their soiree, guests were presented with Honey Butter Chicken  Biscuits from Whataburger as a late-night treat. Then K+J were celebrated one more time with a  sparkler sendoff. It was the perfect way to end a wonderful wedding day!

Tina + Henry's Wedding at the Vineyards at Chappel Lodge | Austin Wedding Designer & Full Service Planner

Throughout the year, we have planned and re-planned weddings and made countless recommendations for our couples. When their celebrations finally arrive, we still feel the same sense of excitement we always experience as they are about to recite their vows and celebrate with their guests. However, given the year we’ve experienced, weddings that are forging ahead, despite the obstacles, are even more joyful than usual. We also definitely feel a sense of relief when the day finally arrives and goes off without a hitch! 2020 has taught us all the value of safely spending time with our favorite people, and it’s also taught us how to be creative. We think both are beautifully on display throughout Tina and Henry’s summer wedding.

Tina and Henry’s wedding festivities kicked off the way most wedding weekends do – with their rehearsal. The next day, they each spent their mornings getting ready onsite at their beautiful Austin wedding venue, Vineyards at Chappel Lodge. It was a wonderful decision to make because everyone could enjoy a much more leisurely morning and early afternoon.

Before their outdoor ceremony, Tina and Henry chose to see each other for the first time on their wedding day. They explored many of the outdoor settings together with their photographer, Amy of AL Gawlick Photography, and their adorable dog, Zoey, joined them too! One of the biggest benefits of choosing to do a first look is the photographer can also capture many wedding party and family photos in advance. That means there’s more time for couples to enjoy their cocktail hour!

Tina and Henry’s wedding color palette consisted of beautiful shades of ivory, green, and dusty blue. All of their colors were displayed on their chuppah, which was draped in ivory fabric and adorned with blooms by Exquisite Petals. With their ceremony underway, Henry waited for Tina while she walked down the aisle on the arms of both of her parents – (a nod to Henry’s Jewish heritage and one we have long loved). Then they recited their vows, officiated by a father and a cantor, in front of their intimate group of family members and friends before recessing back down the aisle as a married pair.

After their ceremony, Tina and Henry took to Zoom to celebrate their marriage with their guests who joined from afar. A champagne toast was definitely necessary! Then they captured more photos with their wedding party, family, and photographer. We have to note the light; it was beautiful!

The celebrations continued in their tent where tables were again adorned with ivory and dusty blue blooms paired with greenery by Exquisite Blooms. The look was fresh – a perfect late summer statement! Everyone dined on a menu created by Royal Fig Catering, and guests also joined throughout the night on Zoom. We even had one speech offered all the way from Qatar!

Tina and Henry, we loved joining together with your team to plan your wedding. It was memorable for all of the best reasons during a year when we all need wonderful reasons to smile. We look forward to celebrating with you again when BIG parties are given the all-clear. Until then, congratulations again for making it official!

Sydney + Jake's Ma Maison's Wedding | Dripping Springs Wedding Designer & Planner

This year, we think the joy of a wedding day feels more poignant than ever before. We love witnessing as our couples celebrate with their family and friends, and we’re forever happy to witness guests leaning into fun on the dance floor. Gatherings may look and perhaps even feel different, but the message behind them is still the same: love is always in style.

Sydney and Jake celebrated their late summer wedding day in September, and we adored working with them as we styled and planned their day. One of the things they wanted to focus on was creating an environment and a series of events that made their guests feel celebrated. So, the day before their wedding, Sydney treated her bridesmaids and close ladies in her family to brunch. We’re certain this time together felt sweet and intentional! Then, Sydney, Jake, and their families and wedding party gathered together for their rehearsal and rehearsal dinner.

The next day, the future Mr. and Mrs. spent their mornings getting ready with their respective wedding party and family members. Rather than doing a traditional first look with her groom, Sydney chose to do a series of first looks. First, she revealed her gorgeous wedding dress, complete with an incredible bow detail on the back, to her bridesmaids. Then, she shared a first look with her dad. Finally, she saw her brothers for the first time. We loved the focus she placed on her family!

During their ceremony, Sydney met Jake at the top of the aisle where they recited their vows in front of their family and friends. They chose to celebrate both their ceremony and reception in the same place, so these first moments were shared at Ma Maison. We would be remiss if we didn’t note the monogram that awaited S+J outside of the ceremony doors, and we also loved the candles and petals by Last Petal that lined the aisle. Plus, the natural light that streamed into the space was incredible!

Once they were officially married, Sydney and Jake stepped away together to enjoy their first meal as a couple alone. Although it’s tempting to share every moment with your guests, opting to eat together is a wonderful choice. It ensures you’re able to eat (!), and you can also share meaningful conversation uninterrupted. After all, you’ve just experienced a huge life change!

Guests enjoyed cocktails and appetizers before being welcomed into the reception space for dinner and dancing. The style of the centerpieces by Last Petal in the ballroom alternated between fresh white flowers in tall vases, candles paired with greenery, and bouquets from the bridesmaids. The variation added interest, and the gold signs created a custom look and feel.

Love and Happiness made sure there was plenty of dancing, including Sydney and Jake’s first dance and parent dances, and guests were happy to join them on the floor. Before the night could conclude, S+J cut their wedding cake by Sweet Treats Bakery, listened to toasts, and made sure to spend even more time on the dance floor.

Sydney and Jake, we loved working with you to plan your Ma Maison wedding day! Everything about it represented your story beautifully, and it was so wonderful to witness your family and friends joining together to make sure you felt completely loved.

Lara + Robbie’s Hotel Saint Cecilia Wedding | Austin Wedding Coordinator

This year has looked different than any of us thought it would, but that has (thankfully!) not cancelled love. We have still been planning and coordinating celebrations for our couples, and we were honored to work together with Lara and Robbie to plan their micro wedding at Austin’s Hotel Saint Cecilia.

Although they represent a different plan than was perhaps originally intended, micro weddings are intimate and thoughtful. They welcome heartfelt conversations and encourage couples and their guests to linger longer together over dinner. They still welcome designs, and we think the details stand out even more because micro weddings create a feeling of luxury in a space that feels cozier. And, Lara’s design and details, which she described to Claire Cassner Photography as “beautiful, natural, a little bit wild and funky, not neatly tied together with a bow” definitely fit the bill!

On their wedding day, both Lara and Robbie enjoyed slow mornings spent with their family and wedding party. Robbie got ready at his parent’s house with his groomsmen, while Lara and her bridesmaids started their day with brunch at Café No Se. Hair and makeup got underway in the early afternoon, and before she met Robbie at the end of the aisle, she shared a first look with her dad.

Guests were seated outdoors in the garden at Hotel Saint Cecilia for the ceremony, which had two oak trees decked out in blooms serving as the backdrop. Lara walked down the aisle with her dad, and we’re certain she felt beautiful as she revealed her sleeved lace wedding dress to her guests and Robbie for the first time. They recited their vows and were announced as married before recessing down the aisle and joining together with their families to capture portraits.

Lara and Robbie still wanted to honor a few of the traditions of a larger, more formal reception, so they were introduced as Mr. and Mrs. Robbie Canon before the Royal Dukes Band played a rendition of “Tupelo Honey” by Van Morrison for their first dance. After dancing, the couple and their guests dined alfresco on a menu created by Hotel Saint Cecilia. As we mentioned, a natural and beautiful design was important to Lara and Robbie, so tables included centerpieces with anemones, roses, and zinnias. We loved the bold and whimsical pops of color!

Before the night came to a close, Lara and Robbie cut their cake. They also danced with their guests to the final song of the night – a wonderful rendition of “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” by Whitney Houston – before their guests held sparklers in the air to send Lara and Robbie off as an officially married couple.

Lara and Robbie, we loved working with you and your incredible team of vendors. Your day was one we won’t soon forget because you embraced changes while still thoughtfully honoring the design you had in mind as well as your relationship.

11 Top San Antonio Wedding Venues

Choosing the city in which you will celebrate your wedding day is equally as important as choosing the venue where your ceremony and reception will take place. Both help to highlight your wedding’s style, and they provide the backdrop for all of the details we source and style together as your wedding planners.

Each city in Texas offers its own flair, and we’ve already highlighted some of the wonderful wedding venues we love in Austin and Houston. But, we have one more city to celebrate. Today, we’re heading slightly west across Texas to the city known for its Riverwalk – let’s go to San Antonio! From museums to hotels, plantations, and ranches, below are 11 top wedding venues to love in the River City.

DON STRANGE RANCH:

Texas is known for ranches and Texas Hill Country, and Don Strange Ranch celebrates both. Offering the opportunity to stay on property the night before your wedding and multiple spaces to share in your guests’ joy as they witness you becoming a married pair, Don Strange Ranch combines service and rustic barn style perfectly.

Why We Love It: Don Strange Ranch feels secluded, but you’re mere moments away from the heart of San Antonio. We love that their team offers couples the chance to stay on property at the Zink House the night before the wedding, which alleviates stress the next day because you have already arrived at your getting ready location. Plus, Don Strange Ranch has two spaces perfect for celebrating – Kendall Creek and Headquarters, respectively. Each offers a slightly different feel, but both celebrate the heart of San Antonio with plenty of space to welcome up to 3,000 guests (Headquarters).

HOTEL EMMA:

Hotel Emma is as quirky and fun as it is historic, and it’s also located along the river in northern San Antonio. There’s plenty of culture for guests to enjoy steps away from the hotel, and there are multiple spaces inside for your ceremony and reception.

Why We Love It: Because of Hotel Emma’s location, we always feel couples are offering their guests the opportunity to experience San Antonio so completely. Plus, the hotel offers the opportunity for brides and grooms to get ready onsite. Hotel Emma’s event spaces are not short on quirky details that are historical and industrial, so each one serves as a cool and fun backdrop for a ceremony, reception, or both.

JACK GUENTHER PAVILION AT BRISCOE MUSEUM:

The Riverwalk is the true gem of San Antonio, so we love recommending Jack Guenther Pavilion at Briscoe Museum because it sits along this famed city spot. Filled with contemporary style and indoor/outdoor spaces, this venue is a great option for couples hoping to celebrate in the heart of downtown.

Why We Love It: The styles our couples prefer vary greatly, so we always want to be able to recommend spaces that caterer to each individual couple’s preferences. Jack Guenther Pavilion at Briscoe Museum ticks all of the boxes for a contemporary space in a wonderful location. Plan to start your celebration with an outdoor ceremony in the garden. Then retreat inside for your reception. The options here are plentiful!

KENDALL POINT:

If you would like to retreat to the Texas Hill Country for your wedding, a wonderful venue to consider is Kendall Point. It’s a family run space located outside of San Antonio with multiple ceremony and reception locations and incredible views.

Why We Love It: We are always thrilled to support family run businesses, and Kristin and Jeremy are one of our favorite duos in San Antonio. These two manage Kendall Point together, and they have such a heart for the couples they serve. On the property, you will find two locations for ceremonies. The first is outside in the gazebo overlooking a spring-fed pond, and the second is at the foot of a grand staircase. All receptions are held indoors (a preferred option due to the heat in Texas!) inside the ballroom, which can seat up to 400 guests.

LA CANTERA RESORT AND SPA:

If you’re envisioning your wedding taking place at a resort that feels like a beautiful escape, we are quick to recommend La Cantera Resort and Spa. Located in Texas Hill Country a quick 20-minute drive outside of San Antonio, this location offers beautiful touches in an incredible setting for both you and your guests.

Why We Love It: Destination weddings are popular in Texas because there are plenty of great hotels and resorts, and La Cantera Resort and Spa is definitely a go-to location for our team and our couples! The resort is home to a golf course, spa, pools, and plenty of resort activities to create a full weekend of fun. There are indoor and outdoor ceremony and reception spaces, and we’re particularly drawn to the courtyards with views of Hill Country for ceremonies! Expect to enjoy fantastic food and service with a lovely backdrop.

LOST MISSION:

Filled with Spanish style architecture and boasting plenty of awards, Lost Mission sits in Texas Hill Country on 25 acres. There are indoor and outdoor locations for ceremonies, cocktail hours, and receptions, so there is definitely not a shortage of inspiration to use to cultivate beautiful wedding details.

Why We Love It: Having the ability to host a wedding ceremony and reception at the same location is a bonus for couples and their guests because it removes the hassle of having to drive between two locations. Lost Mission has a Spanish style chapel onsite, and the interior is beautiful! Plus, there are outdoor spaces on the lawn to create wonderful ambiance for cocktail hours and receptions. If you’re dreaming of an indoor reception, that’s possible too because there’s a spacious ballroom onsite where you can welcome up to 400 guests.

McNAY ART MUSEUM:

The McNay Art Museum is known as the first modern art museum in Texas, which we think is a wonderful historical note! Inside, there are works celebrating Renaissance, European, American, Theatre, and Southwest art. There are spaces to celebrate inside and outside amongst the art, and we also like knowing you can opt to only host your ceremony at the museum if you’re imagining experiencing multiple locations in San Antonio on your wedding day.

Why We Love It: Even though the McNay Art Museum is, in fact, a museum, it has such a contemporary and welcoming feel to it. We think that’s because it looks like a home! Located in San Antonio, the venue has indoor and outdoor locations for ceremonies and receptions. Imagine walking down an aisle set on the grounds, sipping on cocktails in the lobby, and retreating inside to dine and dance in auditorium. There are plenty of options here, and you truly cannot go wrong with any of them!

PARK 31:

Nestled outside of San Antonio in Texas Hill Country is Park 31. Like others, the venue offers indoor and outdoor locations for ceremonies and receptions, and 30 acres will surround you and your guests while you’re celebrating. Beautiful views; modern, industrial style; an incredible team – all three await at Park 31!

Why We Love It: Park 31 blends elegant and industrial style together seamlessly, and we love that the space offers the space of a ranch while still boasting contemporary style. There are two outdoor locations available for ceremonies, and the interior space is perfect for receptions. Windows stretch from floor to ceiling, chandeliers hang overhead, and exposed bricks line the walls. Style and service combine here to offer you and your guests a completely unique experience.

ST. ANTHONY HOTEL:

Similar to our roundup of Austin and Houston wedding venues, we wanted to make sure to highlight a space that feels completely luxurious in San Antonio. In this case, it’s the St. Anthony Hotel! Located in downtown San Antonio steps away from the Riverwalk, you and your guests will be close to all of the action while enjoying the service that can only be found at a four-star hotel. Plus, there are plenty of spaces for weddings!

Why We Love It: We always like offering a setting to our couples that’s beautiful and offers completely indoor spaces for ceremonies and receptions. Inside the St. Anthony Hotel, you will find up to 13 spaces primed for events of various sizes. Each one honors the history of the hotel, which was built in 1909, and each one also boasts classic French style. Some of the most lauded celebrities, like Lucille Ball, have set foot in these rooms, and we love knowing our couples are celebrating under the same classic chandeliers as such well-known figures. Plus, who wouldn’t want to capture photos outside on the terrace overlooking San Antonio?

SOUTHWEST SCHOOL OF ART:

Southwest School of Art is a San Antonio staple, and they are known for their historical spaces that feel like a fairytale mixed with the perfect amount of art. With indoor and outdoor spaces and a location along the San Antonio River, we are always thrilled to recommend this wonderful location.

Why We Love It: The fairytale feel of Southwest School of Art is unexpected because so many of the spaces in San Antonio lean more in the direction of classic rustic or modern style. So, we love the femininity of the space, particularly the chapel! Plan to recite your vows outside in the garden and be sure to capture plenty of portraits. Then retreat inside to dance and dine against a historical backdrop that can welcome up to 500 guests.

THE WITTE MUSEUM:

If you’re hoping to delight your guests with an event that’s filled with whimsy, look no further than the Witte Museum. Filled with exhibits devoted to sharing culture, nature, and science, the Witte Museum boasts an exterior that’s completely modern and an interior filled with artifacts you and your guests can enjoy throughout your event.

Why We Love It: We think museums represent the heart of the city where they’re located so well, and that’s definitely the case for how the Witte Museum celebrates San Antonio. Here, you will find two distinct packages for events. The Prassel Auditorium Package offers the chance to celebrate outside and inside beginning with a ceremony in the courtyard for up to 210 guests. The Memorial Auditorium Package is wonderful for more intimate weddings of up to 110 guests where friends and family can dine inside and outside on the patio before your dance floor fills for the night.

Are you planning to celebrate your wedding day in San Antonio? Which venue tops your list? We would love to explore these venues (and more!) with you as we plan your Texas celebration in Hill Country or in the heart of downtown.

The Ultimate Backyard Picnic: Intimate Anniversary Celebration, Austin

Pandemic event planning? We have you covered! No event is too small- Ryan and Annie’s anniversary celebration is proof that sometimes celebrating at home is better than anywhere else!

Ryan’s executive assistant, Elsie, contacted us Monday afternoon for an intimate event 72 hours later.

We acted quickly, creating a design board that included a custom tent and white flooring from Premiere, collaborating with Stems on everything from table-for-2 to the greenery-wrapped festoon lighting to reflect off of the white flooring, pulling in custom monogrammed napkins that we were able to source locally through Budaful Threads, and customizing a 3-course menu with Austin Catering. It was so fun! Ryan and Annie were thrilled.

7 Top Houston Wedding Venues

As wedding planners, our role is always to uncover the most meaningful ways to share the story of your relationship with your guests. We want to know how you met, why you love spending time together (and how you like to spend it!), and what you are most excited to experience on the day of your celebration. As important as food and flowers and stationery will always be, there’s also an element that helps to set the tone and act as a canvas for your wedding day – your wedding venue.

We live and work and love in Texas, so it’s only natural for us to want to highlight the venues in Austin, Houston, and San Antonio where so many of the celebrations we have planned have taken place. Today, we’re highlighting the locations we love in our home city. So, meet seven of our favorite Houston wedding venues below.

THE BELL TOWER ON 34TH

When a venue is inspired by Italian villas, you know before ever setting foot on the property that it’s beautiful. But, then you arrive, and it’s more than you imagined. Meet The Bell Tower on 34th!

Why we love it: The venue is solely dedicated to hosting weddings and events, and their team is incredible. They also have a great executive chef onsite who masterfully crafts menus and never fails to meet the needs (and culinary whims!) of our couples. The architecture also offers plenty of inspiration, and the space is designed to host events with up to 1,200 guests; however, the flow of The Bell Tower on 34th is such that intimate weddings are just as easy to plan.

THE HOUSTONIAN

Located in the Galleria District, The Houstonian offers a complete variety of indoor and outdoor spaces. Plus, we love that it’s located on many acres and boasts a wonderful pool and spa if you’re hoping to create a complete destination experience for your guests.

Why we love it: The Houstonian has long felt like an oasis in the middle of the city to us. We love recommending this space for couples who are welcoming out of town guests because they will definitely feel relaxed and filled with fun by the time they depart. From a live oak with string lights to gardens, decks, and indoor ballrooms, the event spaces are numbered here. Plus, the culinary experiences do not disappoint!

HOTEL ZAZA

We have shared how much we love Hotel ZaZa time and time again, so of course we had to include this Houston hotel on our list of favorite venues in the city!

Why we love it: Hotel ZaZa is a boutique hotel (they have two Houston locations, ZaZa Houston Museum District + Hotel ZaZa Memorial City, as well as one in Austin and Dallas too) , so it has a completely unique feel woven throughout all of its interiors, including the ballroom spaces. We especially love the location in the heart of the Museum District. In the ballroom, you will find sweeping views of the city, which look even more incredible at night when the buildings are aglow. With its inviting backdrop, there are plenty of opportunities to weave in color palettes, style, and more.

ST. REGIS

When couples mention they would like to host an elegant soiree that’s filled with luxury, we cannot recommend the St. Regis quickly enough! Located in the Uptown district, the space boasts up to 11 ballrooms from which to choose for a variety of events and guest counts.

Why we love it: We have long adored the St. Regis brand because their staff is unparalleled, and we know our couples and their guests will leave the celebration feeling truly pampered. Plus, there is always something to be said for a classic hotel ballroom wedding! The spaces at the St. Regis are filled with timeless style, and the spacious interiors forever keep guests protected from the Texas elements outside. There are plenty of ways to create a truly spectacular wedding here!

THE GROVE

When couples express their interest in celebrating in a space that’s modern with incredible cuisine, we’re always quick to recommend The Grove! Located in downtown Houston, the space is multi-level, modern with industrial flair, and offers views of Discovery Green.

Why we love it: Houston is such a classic Texas city with plenty of historical charm, so when The Grove debuted with modern style in 2008 we were thrilled! We love working with clients to create a complete culinary experience for their guests, and The Grove’s team has the same view. We also love their passion for green spaces and eco-friendly events, which ties in perfectly with their location overlooking Discovery Green.

CRYSTAL BALLROOM

We love planning events for and with our clients when they want to embrace the history of Houston, and the Crystal Ballroom is one of the most historical venues in the city! Built in 1913 and located in the Rice Hotel, this space is in the heart of the city with a ballroom and adjacent smaller spaces, making it a wonderful choice for celebrations downtown.

Why we love it: We’ve mentioned it already, but we love the history of the Crystal Ballroom, and we also love the location. The Rice Hotel is near the Theatre District, airport, Minute Maid Park, and the George R. Brown Convention Center, so it’s conveniently located near many landmarks for guests to enjoy. The interior of the space is also gorgeous – crystal chandeliers hang from the ceiling, a built-in stage is primed for a band, and the full design is original to 1913 when the Crystal Ballroom opened.

COHEN HOUSE

We are quick to support the colleges and universities who call Houston home, and Rice University is one of them. On their campus, they also have a wonderful venue, the Cohen House, that serves as the faculty’s club. The space includes both interior and exterior spaces, including a garden, and all have a beautiful feel that’s as historic as they are welcoming.

Why we love it: It’s likely a given, but one of the top reasons why we love this property is for its ties to Rice University! We love the pride of this college, and our couples also love the ease of celebrating their ceremony onsite (if they choose!). Rental of the Cohen House includes multiple spaces, including the living room, terrace, main dining room, and outdoor garden, which provides plenty of inspiration for design and layout. With the ability to host events with up to 300 guests, Cohen House suits the needs of our couples well, while always feeling at once spacious and intimate.

Brazos Hall, Downtown Austin

Converted from a 1900's grain mill into an elegant mixed-use event venue with restored long-leaf pine floors, brick walls and wood rafters,  this turn-of-the-century warehouse building has loads of room and character.

They have two unique spaces- a Main Hall and a Rooftop Deck. In the Main Hall they can accommodate around 350 guests, depending on how you layout the room. The rooftop deck is a stunning bonus space that works great for ceremonies and cocktail hours.

One of our all-time favorite weddings was at Brazos Hall. Be sure to check it out here: Kady and Nathan’s Brazos Hall Wedding. Hop on over to the ‘gram here: Brazos Hall Instagram and browse their website here.

Four Seasons, Downtown Austin

Four Seasons hotels have always been known for impeccable service and opulent accommodations. Their Austin property is no different!

This venue has amazing lakefront views and hidden gems around every corer. They have two spaces- the Lawn + the Ballroom. With room to host events of up to 550, it is a great option for a large wedding.

Ma Maison, Dripping Springs, TX

Nestled on 23 acres in the beautiful wine country just outside Austin, Texas, Ma Maison is a luxury wedding and event venue that combines the warmth of home with breathtaking European-inspired elegance. Inspired by their French heritage, their 10,000-square foot property and immaculately designed outdoor sites provide an oasis of natural beauty. They have several gorgeous outdoor sites to choose from - The Grove, The Green Cathedral (one of the most unique and recognizable parts of the property, in our option) and The Lake View. Between the spaces (and depending on the set-up), they can accommodate several hundred guests.

For covered and indoor spaces, they have The Trellis (a great plan B for outdoor weddings) and The Great Hall. The Chapel is a new addition that is under construction that we’re really excited about!

We’ve worked at Ma Maison quite a few times and never fail to love it! Check out these recent weddings: Eric + Liza | Carly + Caleb | Meredith + Stephen. Find Ma Maison on the gram here and browse their website here.

The Allan House, Downtown Austin

The Allan House is another Austin wedding venue that you’ll find us at often. This venue is a charming Victorian home built in 1883. The outdoor space is stunning! Although they have indoor and outdoor options, most of our couples prefer to enjoy festivities beneath the stars.

The Allan House is “Victorian charm and modern sophistication” to a T! The venue can accommodate 200 guests.

Avery + Kyle's Houston Crystal Ballroom Wedding | Houston Wedding Coordinator

Avery and Kyle’s wedding at the Crystal Ballroom in Houston was lovely, romantic and sophisticated!

Avery and Kyle hosted their ceremony at St. Luke’s UMC. As Avery processed down the aisle with her father, her stunning cathedral length veil cascading behind her, Kyle beamed from ear to ear. St. Lukes is a beautiful church and worked well for their almost 200 person guest list.

The couple got engaged in Paris, which influenced their design/decor choices.

Their reception was held at the Crystal Ballroom in Houston. This historic venue is located in downtown Houston in what was formerly the Rice Hotel. The venue has spectacular crystal chandeliers, 35-foot ceilings and a full wraparound terrace. It’s also huge- the 5,600 square foot event space and the adjunct 1,400 square foot parlor provide ample room for up to 250 guests. If you want a grande wedding with traditional yet opulent vibes, Crystal Ballroom can deliver!

You’ll see little hints of Paris in the reception design (like the cake and cake topper and lock & key escort card display).  Kyle actually made the “lock & key” escort card display himself- that is some DIY we can get down with!

The day was everything they dreamed for and we’re so happy for them!

Erin & David's Bell Tower on 34th Wedding | Houston Wedding Coordinator

When we think about Erin and David’s Bell Tower on 34th wedding, pretty in pink comes to mind! This feminine fete was frilly and fabulous.

Erin and David’s wedding was a truly joyful day. We’re pretty sure Erin didn’t stop smiling once- she’s a bubbly and beautiful personality that embraced the celebration.

One of our favorite things about this wedding is that as elegant as it was, it was also full of personality. There was a carefree quality about the day that sticks with us- anytime a couple wants a balloon arch AND elaborate florals, we’re down for the challenge! It all came together better than we could have imagined.

Our First Wedding During COVID-19

In March 2019 I started working with Mallary and her mom Andrea to plan their Austin wedding. Mallary’s identical twin sister’s own wedding was just a month away, and their big sister’s wedding was only a few months prior, so Andrea was planning her 3rd wedding within a span of 2 years. She knew what to expect! Or so we thought.

We planned for an April 4, 2020 wedding with 220-250 guests, the great majority of them coming from out-of-state to celebrate with Mallary and Ryan under the gorgeous oaks of Camp Lucy Sacred Oaks in Dripping Springs, just outside of Austin. We planned their wedding to be full of interactive elements, from a whiskey cart to custom neon backdrops to yard games to a star guide, I knew guests were going to love this celebration with a magical woodlands feel.

And then COVID.

With the Texas-Louisiana border closed and then events in Texas being banned, we had no choice but to postpone on March 17, just two and a half weeks before the wedding. With the groom scheduled to start his residency at the end of June, there was only one Saturday that the venue had available that would work, so we set the new date of June 13th, which was this past weekend. But as you can no doubt guess, rescheduling wasn’t the only issue we needed to address - our new focus became how to ensure that guests still had some control over their own health, that we minimized the risks wherever possible, and that we kept a celebratory environment that matched all that our clients had been eagerly looking forward to.

Thankfully, because our business structure is quality over quantity, each planner on our team works with only 10-12 clients at a time, which allowed us to devote the required time to our March-May clients to reschedule their events. It is not an exaggeration to say that we’ve really bonded with these clients, as we worked with them daily to help them navigate these uncharted waters. Even though I’ve faced many hurdles over my 15+ years of planning weddings (tornadoes, floods, fires, hurricanes, closed airports, medical emergencies, etc), this pandemic presented obstacles that in no way resemble anything we’ve ever faced. I’m happy to share with you the measures we took, in case they’re helpful to you in your own plans.

Before the wedding:

  • The bride created a facebook group for all of her guests who had RSVPed yes for the wedding. We used this group to notify guests of changes, give them updates on the hotel block availability/rates, and to communicate to guests that while we were super excited about the celebration we understood that some guests needed to stay home in order to be safe, so we’d have a live-stream available of the ceremony.

  • We included the normal fun Austin-y things in the welcome bags, but Andrea also added custom fabric masks (“Spread Love, Not Germs”) and bottles of hand sanitizer from their home state.

  • Welcome bags were delivered to guests’ rooms, rather than being exposed while waiting at guest services or the concierge.

Rehearsal Dinner, 120 guests, 50% capacity:

  • All staff and vendors were expected to wear masks.

  • Per current mandates, we spaced tables apart so that there was 6’ between the back of one chair to the chair of the next, and each table sat 6 guests. Place settings consisted of flatware rolled in fabric napkins, and a printed menu.

  • The venue staff took guests’ temperature as they arrived, and asked each to sign-in with their email so that they can be notified if anyone involved tests positive in the next couple of weeks.

  • We had a bowl of additional masks for the guests, with a large pump bottle of hand sanitizer.

  • We eliminated the cocktail hour and instead had guests sit and then staff placed a plate of appetizers at their place setting.

  • The bar was closed and instead the waitstaff passed wine and the signature drink as guests entered, then took beverage orders at the tables.

  • Menu was changed from buffet to plated, and desserts were made for the staff to deliver to the tables.

  • The mobile photo booth attendant entered the guests’ phone numbers, rather than having them touch the screen.

Wedding Day, 180 guests, 50% capacity:

  • We had the snacks in the Bride’s Suite and Groom’s Suite portioned and individually packaged, rather than sitting out on displays (hummus tray, fruit and cheese spread, sandwiches) and also asked for the vendor meals to be packaged.

  • At the guest sign-in table we provided a bucket of new pens for the guestbook, and a second bucket for guests to discard used pens. We also had a framed sign that said “Let’s be Royal - curtsies and bows instead of handshakes and hugs.”

  • Also at the sign-in table we had masks available again, as well as buttons guests could wear if they’d like others to keep a distance, with a sign explaining “Distance is Temporary, Love is Forever - If you want to ensure social distancing and help you feel safe, feel free to wear a button.”

  • At the ceremony, the rows of chairs were spaced father apart than usual, and the ceremony was livestreamed to the wedding group on Facebook.

  • For the reception, the venue had an attendant to open and close the door, and bathroom doors were propped open. We had framed handwashing reminder signs (set to the lyrics of "Think I'm gonna Marry You") on the bathroom sinks.

  • The venue had plexiglass screens on the front of each bar and food station and roped stanchions around the cake. All plates and rolled silverware were at the stations.

  • Tables were 6' apart again, but sat groups of 10. It was open seating but we had a VIP table for guests ages 65 and older (there were only a handful of them).

  • I scheduled text reminders for the times I'd usually gather the wedding party, and communicated with the catering team and DJ mostly by text.

  • We had a star guide, so we made sure to provide a container of Clorox wipes for him so that he could wipe down his telescope between users.

It wasn’t perfect and there are some things I’ll do differently next time (like being better about keeping my mask on the entire 8 hours), but we definitely implemented measures that made this wedding more safe from germs than it would have been a few months ago. Overall, I think it was a success. Guests had plenty of ways to ensure their safety, while very much keeping the celebration fun and full of love. I am so thrilled that Mallary and Ryan were able to have the celebration they wanted, even during a pandemic. I can’t wait to share the professional pictures with you when I get them!

Jessica

Huge kudos to the vendors involved in implementing these measures, especially:
