Events to Celebrate: Frances' 70th Birthday, Private Residence Party | Houston Event Planners

I had such a wonderful time helping Frances' two children plan her 70th Birthday Party at the families stunning property in Camden, TX. The color palette of lime green and coral truly popped against the lush green backdrop the property provided. From a raw seafood bar to an elaborate fireworks show, this birthday party was one for the books! Below are some beautiful images captured by Nikki Tran of Caught Studios.

I had the absolute privilege of helping Tiffany Su coordinate her son's first birthday party at Hotel Zaza last fall. Tiffany takes detail to a whole new level! Babies to Celebrate: My Little Sister :-)

Being an Event Coordinator can be tough in one respect: You have to work HARD (or at least I do) not to go over-board on things like your childrens' birthday parties, friends' showers, etc. I, like so many other people these days, am on a budget. While I would love nothing more than to throw the most outrageous parties, I still have to write the check (and explain the expense to my hubby) at the end of the day.

Well...my baby sister is expecting her first baby in March. She is the best sister a girl could ask for ... close doesn't begin to describe our relationship. Throwing her a shower was a no-brainer. But what's a girl on a budget to do?? Here is what I did. It was simple. But elegant. And oh so fun. :-)
  • Invitations - I went "green." I sent a really cute electronic invitation from Evite's new website: Postmark. If you haven't seen it yet, you should check it out.
  • Food - I opted for a brunch shower. Breakfast foods are typically less expensive than other alternatives. And it helps that my sister loves a good brunch. :-) I served french toast shooters, fruit skewers, my Mother's famous chicken salad with crackers, and pigs-in-a-blanket.
  • Beverages - Who doesn't love a good mimosa? We had them, of course. Along with orange juice for the mommies-to-be and sparkling water for anyone who preferred a non-juice alternative.
  • Flowers - It took going to four different grocery stores, but I finally found white stock (love) and white tulips. Yes, you did read that correctly. I said grocery store. I got 8 stems of stock and 20 tulips for less than $30. I used two vases and one coffee mug that I already owned.
  • Other decor - I am all about using what you already have. I own 20 beautiful wood mingling plates and 10 champagne flutes. I borrowed 10 more flutes from my sister (they didn't match mine, but they didn't need to). Throw in a few colorful napkins, some existing placemats and an old baby-blanket, and you're all set. The mingling plates allowed guests to wonder around without feeling the need to sit down. If you don't know what I'm talking about, google them. They are my go-to choice for any party I throw. Best.Buy.Ever.
  • Favors - My sister loves macaroons, so I opted to splurge on them. We didn't serve cake or any other sweet during the shower (with french toast & fruit, I thought it would be sugar over-kill), and I thought they would make a great little take-home. I threw them on top of two cake plates I already owned, and they made for another great decor piece.

Here are a couple of pictures I snapped with my iphone that day. I know they aren't the best quality, but I was busy playing hostess :-)

Happy Planning!

Events to Celebrate: Miller's 60th Birthday Party

Helping couples plan their perfect wedding is fabulous. However, having the opportunity to work with them again and again is the bees knees. :-) I had a blast helping Maricela and Brooks with their big day, and was THRILLED with Brooks' mother contacted me to coordinate his dad's 60th Birthday Bash. It was an 8 hour long, 4-leg party complete with roasts, toasts, limos, laughter and loads of fun. Here are a few pictures of the first two stops taken by my dear friend, Kylene Sherer. Didn't she do an amazing job? I'll post pictures from the last two stops next month.

Thanks again for letting me be a part of this awesome birthday bash. It was one for the books!

xoxo,

Corporate Event: SC'08 Supercomputing Conference | Austin Corporate Event Planner

Last week Austin hosted the international

SC'08

- Supercomputing Conference. This conference throws a good party! I was thrilled to help them pull together the details for their Thursday night "Technical Program Reception." Here's a peek...

We transformed Star Hill Ranch into a tour of three Texan heritages - Native American, Mexican, and Old West. Food and entertainment were evenly distributed throughout all three areas, ensuring that all 2,000 guests had somewhere to go and something FUN to do.

The Native American area was complete with a custom tipi, a gazebo cleverly disguised as a hogan, Native American dancers and musicians, painted horses, and posole and roasted corn.

When guests unloaded the 40 charter busses, they immediately stepped into our own Margaritaville. Bustling with mariachis, salsa dancers, and flamenco performers, it was difficult to choose which performance to watch first! We have plenty of bars to keep the lines short and the guests well-hydrated, and the aroma from the quesadillas and tamales was hard to miss!

My favorite area was the Old West area - there was just so much going on! Cowboy storytellers, toe-tapping country music, trick roping.... and then there were the guest-participation activities! Like bull-riding, mechanical lassoing, and instructors helping you to learn how to line-dance - SO FUN!! And I can't forget the food! Guests LOVED the bar-b-que and plentiful desserts, they even made their own s'mores at the campfires.

SUCH a fun event! And the committee I worked with over our year of planning was a group of really great, smart people. This experience was a blast from start to finish.

Angel Springs Open House today | Austin Wedding Planning

We'll be at Angel Springs today, coordinating their open house. If you're searching for a facility or any vendors, it's worth the drive on a beautiful Sunday! Check out Angel Springs' blog for a list of the fantastic vendors involved.

Exit Realty Christmas Party, Star Hill Ranch | Austin Event Planner

It has been a busy December for the Something to Celebrate team -- holiday parties, weddings, anniversaries, new babies... The fun never stops!

Part of the fun was another successful event for our friends over at Exit Exceptional Properties. It was a "Cowboy Christmas" complete with Salt Lick BBQ, the Dale Watson Band and a Casino Night.

Guests enjoyed custom cigars, craps and blackjack. And Santa came early to Star Hill Ranch -- the giveaways included fabulous Wildwood wine baskets, rounds of golf and the grand prize -- a trip to Cancun.

May your holidays be merry and bright!

Looking forward to 2008,

Becky

Aaron's Surprise for Tara | Austin Anniversary Party Planning

At Something to Celebrate, we love a challenge! Aaron called us to help him surprise his beautiful wife on their first anniversary. His big idea was to recreate their destination beach wedding on the building site (dirt and dust!) of their future love nest. Such a great idea and we had a blast making it happen.

Special thanks to Hudson’s on the Bend for recreating Aaron and Tara’s wedding night menu and Cakeism for the beautiful wedding cake on the fly!

Happy anniversary you two. Call us when it's time to plan the baby shower.

From the happy husband...

Becky:

You guys did an amazing job and definitely made it an anniversary to remember. You can put me down as a reference anytime.

We had a great time and Tara was blown away by the set up. She kind of thought we were going to have a picnic at the house, but didn't expect anything that extraordinary. Again, thank you very for making our first wedding anniversary one to remember forever.

Exit Realty 4th of July Celebration | Austin Event Planner

Lauren and I spent a rainy July 4th coordinating the annual Exit Realty Client Party. Held at the Lake Travis home of Dawn Krantz, guests enjoyed Amy’s Ice Cream, hot dogs, frito pies and yummy sangria made by Josh at Wildwood Spirits. Favors included a special red, white and blue popcorn blend from the nice folks at That Popcorn Place. The rain didn’t keep the fireworks away – the night ended with a fabulous private fireworks show.

-Becky

Lauren adds the finishing touches to the teal shirts made especially for the Exit Realty clients.

Becky passing out the custom blended popcorn favors – a huge hit with the guests of all ages.

Red, white and blue sodas added a tasty and unique touch!

Dear Becky,

Thank you for doing such a great job. Everyone had a wonderful time. It is great working with you again!
